At Premier Doodles, we focus on breeding Standard Bernedoodles in two main variations: F1 and F1b Standard Bernedoodles. In addition, we have a line of Multigen Mini Bernedoodles for those looking for smaller-sized companions.
F1 and F1b Standard Bernedoodles
The F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a first-generation mix, with one parent being a Bernese Mountain Dog and the other a Standard Poodle. These dogs typically range in size, with females generally weighing between 65-75 pounds and males in the 75-85 pound range.
Occasionally, some of our F1 Bernedoodles can surpass this, with females weighing up to 90 pounds and males exceeding 100 pounds. This variability in weight depends on the specific breeding pair, and we help guide prospective owners in selecting the puppy that best matches the size they’re looking for.
The F1b Standard Bernedoodle is the result of backcrossing an F1 Bernedoodle with a Standard Poodle, which helps enhance the Poodle’s non-shedding coat traits. This backcross produces Bernedoodles that tend to shed very little, making them more suitable for allergy-prone households. However, there is an option to backcross with a Bernese Mountain Dog, though this increases the risk of shedding and could lead to a coat with fewer furnishings. F1b Bernedoodles generally maintain a similar size to the F1, though some variability still exists based on the specific genetics of the litter.
Standard Bernedoodle Size
As the largest variety of Bernedoodle, the Standard Bernedoodle typically weighs between 70 and 90 pounds and can reach heights of 23 to 29 inches at the shoulder. The females are usually about 10% smaller than their male counterparts.
